Introducing Numu: An ethical way of growth

Most retail investing apps try to be a brokerage, a news app, and a social network all at once. Numu does one thing: every month, it gives you a short list of Shariah-compliant stocks with the strongest recent momentum, and lets you follow along at your own pace.

No trades happen inside the app. No AUM fees. No premium tier locking features behind a paywall. Just the picks, the numbers, and the method.

Why momentum?

Momentum — the tendency for stocks that have outperformed recently to continue outperforming in the short term — is one of the most robustly documented anomalies in financial research. Jegadeesh and Titman showed it in 1993. It has been re-confirmed across decades, countries, and asset classes since.

The catch: executing a momentum strategy by hand is hard. You need to rank hundreds of stocks on consistent metrics every month, rebalance mechanically, and tolerate the periods when momentum underperforms. Most retail investors give up before the math has time to work.

Numu automates the ranking. You just see the output.

Why Shariah-compliant?

The universe Numu picks from is the SP Funds S&P 500 Shariah Industry Exclusions ETF (SPUS) holdings — roughly 211 mid-to-mega cap US stocks screened against Islamic ethical criteria. That means:

• No conventional banking, insurance, or interest-bearing financial services
• No alcohol, tobacco, gambling, or adult entertainment
• No weapons manufacturing
• No companies with excessive debt-to-asset ratios

For Muslim investors, this removes the screening burden entirely. For non-Muslim investors interested in ESG-adjacent filtering, it is a surprisingly clean universe to work with.

The four strategies

Numu offers four preset strategies, each tuned from a 576-configuration backtest sweep:
